On September 27, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Highway Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop for minor violations on I-85 in Randolph County. As officers made an approach, an odor of marijuana was detected emitting from within the vehicle. When the occupants were asked to step out of the vehicle, they drove away from the scene and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit led for approximately 21 miles and ended in Davidson County, where two individuals were apprehended without incident. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle was driven carelessly and recklessly, and the motorist made several attempts to strike law enforcement vehicles driven by deputies. The vehicle involved in the pursuit was reported stolen out of Charlotte, NC. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office during this incident.
The driver of the vehicle, Tyreese Jonyale Wilkes, and passenger, Martrez Donnell Davis, both of Charlotte, were transported to Randolph County Detention Center.
Tyreese Jonyale Wilkes was charged with two counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, felony flee/elude arrest with motor vehicle, felony possess a stolen motor vehicle, and misdemeanor driving while license revoked not impaired. He received a $150,000.00 secured bond with a first appearance set for September 28, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
Martrez Donnell Davis was charged with felony possession of stolen vehicle. He received a $10,000.00 secured bond with a first appearance set for September 28, 2023 in Randolph County District Court.
