On August 24, 2023, a detective with the Boulder Police Department in Boulder, Colorado, contacted the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT) in regard to locating Nehemias Lopez, who was wanted on a Felony Sexual Assault-Physically Helpless charge. Boulder Police Department had been actively looking for Lopez for several months and believed that Lopez had traveled to Asheboro, NC, and fled from Colorado. They believed he was possibly staying with family on Spanish Ln. Lopez had full extradition on his charges.
Following an investigation into the information, Detectives with the Criminal Apprehension Team and an additional deputy were able to apprehend Lopez on August 25, 2023, at approximately 8:30 am, as he was traveling in Asheboro and on his way to Raleigh. Lopez was taken into custody in the parking lot of the Randolph County Courthouse without incident. He was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where he was charged as a Fugitive from Justice and the magistrate found probable cause for the charge. He was issued a $250,000 secured bond and an extradition hearing was set for September 22, 2023, at the Randolph County Court House.
