On July 3, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on US Hwy 200 S., Seagrove, the driver refused to stop and vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued onto Seagrove Plank Extension and then onto Seagrove Plank Rd. at a continued high rate of speed. The driver then turned off their headlights in an attempt to conceal their whereabouts and was still driving in manner to elude law enforcement. Shortly after, the driver abruptly took a left turn into a driveway at a high rate of speed, continued up the driveway, and drove behind the residence bringing the car to rest. The deputy exited the patrol car and gave verbal commands to the driver, who was later identified as Dylan Fernando Escobar. He complied and was taken into custody without incident. During the encounter with the Escobar, the strong odor of alcohol was emitting from his person. NC Highway Patrol responded to evaluate an alcohol level.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, a concealed handgun was located.
Escobar was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger, misdemeanor fail to heed to lights and sirens, misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon, misdemeanor consume alcohol by a 20 year old, fail to stop sign, failure to burn headlamps, driving left of center, and unsafe passing yellow line. Escobar was given a $2,500 secured bond. A first appearance was set for July 10, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
