On July 1, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Bethel Lucas Rd., Asheboro, in reference to a burglary in process. Upon arrival, the caller reported that the subject, identified as Reuben Lee Hardy, Jr., had fled on foot from the residence. Following the investigation, deputies sought charges against Hardy, Jr., for felony breaking and entering with intent to terrorize/injure occupant and the magistrate found probable cause to issue the warrant.
On July 2, 2023, deputies responded to the same address for Hardy being back at the residence and trespassing. Upon arrival, Hardy ran through the yard, ignoring the verbal commands of deputies to stop. A foot chase ensued, but Hardy was quickly apprehended and taken into custody. He was transported to Randolph County Detention Center, where he was served the earlier warrant and was additionally charged with misdemeanor resisting public officer. He was given a $1,500 secured bond and a first appearance was set for July 3, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
