On June 20, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 85. Additional deputies responded to assist on the stop. During a subsequent search, marijuana was located on the passenger, identified as Devan Robinson of Spartanburg, SC. Based on the marijuana and belief that Robinson had more contraband on his person, he was placed under arrest and transported him to Randolph County Detention Center. During the booking process, Robinson was searched further by staff who located additional illegal drugs.
Robinson advised staff that he ingested illicit substances and was therefore transported to Randolph Health for evaluation.
Warrants were sought and the magistrate found probable cause for charges of four counts of felony trafficking cocaine, two counts felony possession of a controlled substance on jail property and misdemeanor possession of marijuana,
Following the medical evaluation, Robinson was transported back to the Detention Center and served the warrants. The magistrate issued a $100,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for June 19, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
