On January 29, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Buffalo Ford Rd., Asheboro. The driver was identified as Jatia Tavarus Barrett; the passenger and owner of the vehicle was identified as Timothy Derrick Fore; and the rear passenger identified herself, but was later identified as Heather Nicole Tonkin, who had two outstanding orders for arrest. During a subsequent search, methamphetamine and paraphernalia were located.
The female was issued a citation for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and issued a court date of March 13, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
Barrett and Fore were both arrested and transported to Randolph County Detention Center.
The magistrate found probable cause for charges of misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia against Barrett. He was issued a Written Promise to Appear and a court date was set for February 27, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
Detention Center staff located additional illegal substances in Fore’s possession. The magistrate found probable cause for charges of felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, felony possession of controlled substance on jail property, misdemeanor simple possession of schedule II, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana under ½ oz. The magistrate issued a $10,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for January 30, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
Once the deputy discovered the female had given an invalid name, he went before the magistrate, who found probable cause and issued a warrant for arrest on Heather Nicole Tonkin for Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Resisting a Public Officer.
