On January 14, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Colonial Loop, Randleman, in reference to a burglary in progress. The caller reported that Dustin Aaron Bennett was at the address attempting to break into the home and a family member was inside; the caller was enroute to the address. Upon arrival, the deputy observed Bennett walking away from the address and detained him. The victim arrived and deputies checked on the welfare of the person inside the home.
During the investigation, deputies confirmed there was an active 50B against Bennett prohibiting from being on the property and therefore placed him under arrest. It was also determined he had additional outstanding warrants issued on January 13, 2023 that stemmed from an incident that occurred in November. While obtaining statements regarding this incident, Bennett was observed kicking the inside of the patrol car and hitting his head on the interior of the vehicle. Deputies immediately attempted to put a protective helmet on Bennett to prevent self-harm and while doing so, he bit a deputy.
Following the investigation, he was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for the charges of felony stalking, misdemeanor domestic violence protection order violation, misdemeanor domestic criminal trespass, misdemeanor assault on a government official, and misdemeanor resist a public officer. Bond was denied due to charges being domestic in nature. He was also served the additional outstanding warrants for ten counts felony disclosure of private images, felony stalking, felony common law robbery. He was issued a $17,500 secured bond for the additional charges and a first appearance was set for January 17, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
