On October 3, 2022, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on NC Hwy 49 in Asheboro. The driver, Harold James Brundage, III, is known to deputies to have a suspended license. Randolph County Communications confirmed Brundage’s license are suspended and advised that he also had several outstanding orders for his arrest for failure to appear. As the deputy exited the patrol vehicle, the passenger, identified as Christopher Wayne Strickland, fled on foot. Brundage was placed under arrest. During a subsequent search, methamphetamine and paraphernalia were located in his possession. Additional deputies responded to assist in the search for Strickland.
The vehicle was found to be registered to a rental car company. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, additional methamphetamine, paraphernalia, US currency and an out-of-state check written to an unknown subject were located. Additionally, the deputy located a book containing personal identifying information for multiple individuals. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division responded to assist with the investigation.
The dealership in Asheboro was contacted and advised their car was involved in this roadside investigation and they confirmed neither of the two occupants were to be in possession of the vehicle and advised it was a rental. The vehicle was released to their representatives on scene.
Strickland was not located at the time. A warrant for arrest was therefore sought for Christopher Wayne Strickland for resisting public officer and felony possession of methamphetamine seized from the area where he was seated. He also has an unserved order for arrest for felony probation violation.
Brundage was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony identity theft, felony uttering forged instrument, felony possession methamphetamine, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a $12,200 total secured bond and a first appearance was set for October 4, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
