On February 1, 2026, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Thayer Rd., Trinity, regarding an incident of property damage. Video surveillance recorded several UTVs in the vicinity; however, one of them was observed traversing the yard, resulting in damage to the yard itself, a well house, a well pump, and the associated piping.
During a patrol of the area, deputies observed a UTV that matched the description given by the investigating deputy. The vehicle lacked a displayed registration tag, and a traffic stop was initiated at the intersection of NC-62 and Hopewell Church Rd. However, the driver did not comply and refused to stop. The deputies subsequently lost sight of the UTV and ended the pursuit. After identifying a suspect, they visited the residence for further inquiry. Although the suspect was not there, they managed to gather information from an individual, who was later determined to have provided false information.
On February 5, 2026, a search warrant was obtained. During the execution of the search warrant at a residence on Snyder Country Rd., Trinity, the individuals consistently provided false information, and evidence was seized. Michael Anthony Hazelwood and Angela Annette Hazelwood were arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where a magistrate found probable cause for felony obstruction of justice against both individuals. Each received a $5,000 secured bond. Michael was also charged with felony injury to real property on Thayer Rd. incident and received a $10,000 secured bond.
A first appearance was set for February 6, 2026, in Randolph County District Court for both.
