On January 6, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Liberty St. and Depot St., Ramseur, in reference to a welfare check. Upon arrival, a male, later identified as Jody Ryan Cox was located. During a subsequent search, an illegal substance and paraphernalia were located.
Following an evaluation by Emergency Services, Cox was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Due to Cox being out on pretrial release, he was not issued a bond, and a first appearance was set for January 7, 2026, in Randolph County District Court.
