On November 24, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Beckerdite Rd., Sophia, in regard to an assault in progress. Upon arrival in the area, a vehicle in the roadway away from the initial address of the call, flagged down deputies. The suspect involved in the assault was in the passenger seat. Deputies instructed the suspect, identified as Bobby Dale Jones, Jr., to exit the vehicle to discuss the incident. Jones complied but did so aggressively and began walking away despite deputies' commands to stop. He threatened law enforcement and resisted arrest, leading to a physical altercation with the deputies.
After he was detained, and while EMS was assessing Jones and the deputies, an additional deputy proceeded to the residence to investigate the initial incident call. Jones had caused significant property damage and assaulted individuals at the location.
Following an investigation, Jones was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for two counts of felony assault causing physical injury on law enforcement, misdemeanor communicating threats, misdemeanor injury to personal property, misdemeanor simple assault, misdemeanor assault with deadly weapon - minor present, and misdemeanor resisting public officer. The magistrate issued no bond due to the domestic nature and being out on pre-trial release. A first appearance was set for November 25, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
