On July 18, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on southbound I-73/74, Asheboro. The female initially gave a false name and was later identified as Marlena Young, who had warrants out of Guilford County. The male was identified as Randall Dwayne Wright, who had outstanding warrants out of Randolph County and Wythe County, Virginia (for grand larceny).
During an inventory of the vehicle for towing, an illegal substance was located. Both were arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center. While en route, Young stated she had additional narcotics in her possession. Upon arriving at the Detention Center, those items were retrieved.
The magistrate found probable cause for the following charges:
Wright – felony possession of methamphetamine. He was given no bond for his new offenses, and his order for arrest from Randolph County. He was served with his order for arrest, and the magistrate issued a Fugitive Warrant for felony extradition/fugitive other state and set a $150,000 secured bond. A first appearance and an extradition hearing were set for July 18, 2025, in Randolph County District Court
Young – two counts felony possession of methamphetamine, felony identity theft, felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, felony possession of marijuana, misdemeanor resisting a public officer, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor fictitious/altered title/registration card/tag, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia. She was given no bond for being on pre-trial release on her new charges, and a $5,000 total secured bond for her two Guilford County orders for arrest. A first appearance was set for July 18, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
