On August 8, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Kennedy Rd.,Trinity, in reference to embezzlement. During the investigation, the victim provided evidence that a former employee had embezzled over $100,000 from the business while she was the payroll administrator. This was discovered during an annual audit by the business’ accountant.
Following an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, on January 27, 2025, charges were sought against Kelly Peele Smith for felony empbezzlement>=$100,000 and the magistrate found probable cause to issue the warrant.
On March 11, 2025, Smith was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where she was served the warrant. She was issued a $5,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for March 31, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
