On January 30, 2025, while at Sheetz –Finch Farm Rd., Trinity, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputies observed an unoccupied vehicle with a fictitious tag. A male subject, later identified as William Preston Routh, was inside Sheetz at the time the deputies arrived but soon left on foot while they were with the vehicle. During the investigation, it was determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen. After viewing the security video, it was determined that Routh had arrived driving the vehicle. Deputies had searched the area for Routh but were unable to locate him.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, deputies observed the vehicle’s ignition had been damaged and a document was located bearing Routh’s name.
Charges were sought on Routh for felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
On February 6, 2025, Routh was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served his warrant and issued no bond due to being out on pre-trial release. A first appearance was set for February 7, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
