On September 25, 2024, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to NC Hwy 62., Trinity, in reference to Stephen Dewain Crim, a felon, being armed and threatening others. Upon arrival, deputies observed a male standing in the doorway, who matched the description given by the caller. The deputy began giving commands but Crim retreated. Additional deputies responded to assist and made entry into the residence; locating Crim. They also located illegal narcotics, paraphernalia, and a stolen firearm. Following an evaluation by EMS, Crim was transported to an area hospital.
Charges were sought against Crim and the magistrate found probable cause to issue a warrant for felony possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession of a stolen firearm, misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun, misdemeanor simple possession of schedule II controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
On September 28, 2024, Crim was arrested and transported to Randolph County Detention Center where he was served the warrants. He was also served an outstanding order for arrest for a misdemeanor probation violation. He was issued a $1,000 secured bond for the probation violation and a $15,000 secured bond for the new charges. A first appearance was set for September 30, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
