On September 24, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Browers Chapel Road and Lawrence Drive, Asheboro, in reference to an assault. Upon arrival, the victim was visibly injured and reported that a known subject had assaulted him, Harvey Lee Cagle, Jr. Cagle had also stolen the victim’s vehicle and left the victim on the side of the roadway.
Following the investigation, charges were sought against Cagle, Jr., for Felony- Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Misdemeanor- Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The magistrate found probable cause for the charges and issued a warrant. Deputies obtained information that Cagle may attempt to leave the state as he had previously purchased an airline ticket.
The Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT) Detectives began an investigation and utilized additional resources to attempt to locate Cagle. On September 26, 2024, sources led the Criminal Apprehension Team to believe Cagle was attempting to fly out of Charlotte Douglas Airport instead of Piedmont Triad International as he had originally planned. Once the information was confirmed, Detectives began to work with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) and assisted them in locating Cagle’s whereabouts. CMPD Officers located Cagle, took him into custody, and served him with his outstanding warrant. He was issued a No Bond and his first appearance was set for September 27, 2024, in Mecklenburg County District Court, and the court date was set in Randolph County District Court for October 1, 2024.
