On September 19, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Old Humble Mill Rd., Asheboro, in reference to calls reporting the discharging of a firearm from a moving vehicle in the area. Multiple Deputies and Asheboro Police Department Officers responded to the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle. Asheboro Officers conducted a felony stop on NC Highway 42 East on a vehicle matching the description provided. They detained the driver and were able to locate a handgun inside the truck. Deputies met with the male, who was identified as Patrick Ecxel Torres Santos, at the stop. Torres Santos admitted to firing the shots from a moving vehicle. He was arrested and transported to Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony discharge firearm enclosure, misdemeanor go armed to terror of people, and was issued a $75,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for September 20, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
