On September 3, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Lowerywood Circle, Trinity, in reference to a citizen assist. The victim reported he had a trailer and a lawnmower stolen out of Davie County. It was believed that the suspect, Mark Winston Ritter, who had been charged and arrested for the larceny in Davie County, still had possession of the items. The victim was able to provide a picture from a security camera on the property, showing a green Jeep leaving with the trailer and a John Deere lawnmower.
Upon arrival at Ritter’s address in Randolph County, deputies observed the vehicle from the picture parked in the driveway, and what appeared to be a lawn mower covered up with a tarp on the trailer matching the one in the picture. Upon contact with residents, it was learned that Ritter was not currently at the address for questioning and the driver of the Jeep was identified as Teresa Lynn Hill. Deputies were permitted to investigate the trailer and its contents, where the John Deere riding mower was located. The trailer and mower were seized.
Following the investigation, Hill was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of stolen goods. She was issued a $1,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for September 4, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
Charges were also sought on Ritter for felony possession of stolen goods and the magistrate found probable cause, and a warrant for arrest was issued.
On September 9, 2024, Ritter was located by the Criminal Apprehension Team, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served his warrant. The magistrate issued a no bond and a first appearance was set for September 10, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
