On July 19, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Melody Ln., Randleman, in reference to an assault. Upon arrival, the victims reported an unknown male subject walked out of the woodline beside the residence, began yelling at them, approached, and ultimately assaulted two of the victims. The assailant then ran back into the woodline. EMS responded to evaluate the victims.
While gathering information, additional deputies responded to the area to attempt to locate the subject. Communications received an additional call regarding a suspicious male in the area matching the description provided. Deputies located the male, later identified as Jacob Austyn Hicks, in the parking lot of the Dollar General.
Hicks was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony assault inflicting serious injury, misdemeanor assault on a female, and misdemeanor simple assault and issued a $15,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for July 22, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
