In February 2024, the Invictus Task Force received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in reference to possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). The Invictus Task Force initiated an investigation into the cyber tip.
On April 17, 2024, as a result of further investigation, the Invictus Task Force arrested Cody Scott Gurley for ten counts of Second Degree Exploitation of a Minor. Gurley was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate issued a $150,000 secured bond, and a first appearance was set for April 19, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.

The Invictus Task Force is a joint effort of Randolph, Alamance, Davidson, and Forsyth Counties, the State Bureau of Investigation, and Homeland Security Investigations in the fight against internet crimes against children (ICAC), sexual abuse, trafficking and the exploitation of children using a collaboration of resources as a force multiplier.
