On April 4, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to I-73 to assist Asheboro Police Department involved in a vehicle chase on I-73 northbound. Communications advised that the vehicle had struck an Asheboro Officer while fleeing from a traffic stop they had conducted on the vehicle. Deputies in the area of Pineview St. joined the pursuit. The vehicle continued weaving through traffic at a high rate of speed approaching exit 86 and continuing northbound on I-73. At this point, Asheboro advised the Sheriff’s Office to take over pursuit at around exit 95B and that they would be terminating their pursuit. Guilford County and Greensboro Police Department were notified, and assistance was requested. Greensboro Police Department stated that they had a K9 Officer staging at the registered owner's address. Deputies lost sight of the vehicle on Cone Blvd. as it ran through the red light without stopping. Greensboro Police Department continued to look for the vehicle and was able to provide a possible suspect name of Tyrone Devaughnte Woolard. Officers with Greensboro Police Department have stopped Woolard previously in that vehicle and stated that he is in a relationship with the registered owner. Shortly after midnight, Greensboro Police Department located Woolard and he was arrested on other outstanding warrants.
Randolph County Deputies then sought charges against Woolard and the magistrate found probable cause for felony flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, misdemeanor driving while license revoked, misdemeanor speeding, misdemeanor reckless driving-wanton disregard, (I) fail to stop- steady red light and issued a warrant for arrest. Woolard was served these warrants at the Guilford County Detention Center and his bond was denied. A first appearance was set for May 13, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
Asheboro Police Department also sought charges against Woolard for felony flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, felony assault with a deadly weapon against a government official, misdemeanor expired registration card/tag, misdemeanor driving while license revoked – not impaired, misdemeanor fail to heed light /siren and a warrant for arrest was issued. It was also served by Guilford County. Bond was denied on their charges and a first appearance was set for the same date.
