On March 12, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Team was requested by the North Carolina Division of Probation and Parole to assist in the apprehension of Matthew Allen Watson, who is a fugitive from Galax, Virginia, and was wanted for felony failure to appear on 1st offender alcohol violations and an order for arrest for felony possession of Schedule II controlled substance. At 10:40 am, Watson was located and arrested at 3308 Green Glade Rd., Sophia. He was transported to Randolph County Detention Center where he was charged as a Fugitive from Justice and the magistrate found probable cause for the charge. He was issued a $20,000 secured bond and an extradition hearing has been set for March 13, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
