On March 1, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Craven St. and Brooklyn Ave., Ramseur. The vehicle failed to yield and continued to travel onto Craven St., eventually turning onto Dixon St. where it came to a stop in a driveway. Upon approaching the vehicle, a strong odor of marijuana was present. The driver, identified as William Gregory Collins, admitted to consuming marijuana earlier. During a subsequent search, methamphetamine and paraphernalia were located. Collins was placed under arrest. He admitted to having marijuana on his person and retrieved it.
Collins was subsequently transported to the Randolph County Detention Center and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of a schedule VI-controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia, failure to heed lights and siren, speeding and driving left of center. The magistrate found probable cause for the charges and issued a $2,500 secured bond. A first appearance was set for March 1, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
