On October 11, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Haywood Rd., Trinity, in reference to a fraud. Upon arrival, the caller/victim reported that a subject had contacted a building material company in Greensboro, NC on October 9, 2023, and claimed to be him, then charged the card on file for his business for building materials. The subject then arrived at the business to pick up the material and stated that he was sent by the victim to pick same up. The subject was identified as David Wayne Long, who is known by the victim. The victim then attempted contact with Long but has had no response.
Following an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought against Long for two counts felony identity theft, felony financial card fraud and felony obtain property by false pretense.
On February 28, 2024, Long was located, arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served the outstanding warrant. He was also served an order for arrest for failure to appear on a misdemeanor. He was issued a total secured bond of $3,000 and a first appearance was set for February 29, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
