On February 18, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to Millboro Road, Franklinville, in reference to a possible residential fire as the homeowners had woken up to the smell of smoke. Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject, identified as Brandon Ray Bradshaw, at the residence and he was detained.
An area fire department, Randolph County Fire Marshals Office, Crimes Scene Investigations, and Criminal Investigations Division Detectives also responded to assist in the investigation. After the fire inspector completed his investigation, he advised that the fire had been intentionally set. Detectives found additional evidence that corroborated the same.
Following the investigation, Bradshaw was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony first-degree arson and issued a $100,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for February 19, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
