On February 18, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check in the area of Farlow Meadow Rd., Sophia. Upon arrival, deputies approached the vehicle and the driver identified herself as Maria Christine Gavgani. Deputies observed methamphetamine in the passenger seat. She was placed under arrest. During a subsequent search, paraphernalia was also located. She was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She was issued a $1,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for February 19, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
