On January 26, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Waynick Meadow Rd., Asheboro, in reference to a reported trespassing. Having previously spoken with the property owner, deputies knew no one should be on the property. Upon arrival, the deputy located a vehicle and multiple people in the front yard. During a consensual search of the vehicle, illegal substances and paraphernalia were located. Timothy Wayne Smith Jr. took ownership of the items and was placed under arrest. Janice Nicole Hiatt was also arrested on an outstanding order for arrest for failing to appear on a misdemeanor. Both were transported to the Randolph County Detention Center.
The magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of heroin, felony possession of methamphetamine, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia against Smith and issued a $25,000 secured bond. Hiatt was served her outstanding order for arrest and issued a $500 cash bond. Both have a first appearance in Randolph County District Court on January 29, 2024.
After further investigation, charges were also sought against Jessica Ann Forrester, 43, who was also on the property and initially gave a false name during the investigation. The magistrate found probable cause for charges of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor resisting a public officer, and a warrant for her arrest was issued. On January 27, 2024, Forrester was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where she was served her outstanding warrant. She was issued a written promise to appear in Randolph County District Court on February 12, 2024.
