On January 10, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Registry Detective was notified that James Wesley Gray, a registered sex offender, had been seen in an area public library and a church with a preschool, which is a violation. Later in the day, Gray was taken into custody and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony sex offender on child premises. He was issued a $25,000 secured bond plus EHA and a first appearance was set for January 11, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
