On November 10, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in the area of Zoo Parkway and Ridge St., Asheboro. The vehicle was displaying a Virginia license plate that was expired and fictitious as of 2018. The driver stated that he did not currently possess an active North Carolina driver’s license but proceeded to provide an identification card. The male was identified as Justin Matthew Auman and it was confirmed that he had a suspended driving status. During a subsequent search, methamphetamine, heroin, and paraphernalia were located.
The passenger provided two false names to deputies and was arrested. Once placed in handcuffs she immediately stated her name was Melissa Dawn Edmondson.
Auman and Edmondson were arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center.
The magistrate found probable cause for charges of felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of heroin, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license revoked, no liability insurance, failure to register a motor vehicle, and fictitious/altered license plate against Auman. No bond was issued due to pending charges. A first appearance was set for November 13, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
The magistrate found probable cause for charges against Edmondson for misdemeanor resisting public officer. Upon arrival to the jail, Edmondson was asked several times if she had any illegal contraband on her person and she stated no. Once inside the jail and before being scanned during the booking process, she stated that she did have paraphernalia in her possession. It was retrieved and she was charged additionally for felony possession of a controlled substance on a jail/premise. She was also given no bond due to her pending charges. A first appearance was set for November 13, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
