On August 25, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Hunter Ct, Asheboro, in reference to an attempt to locate a stolen utility trailer at the request of the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. They requested, if located, to identify the property owner of the address and recover the trailer if it was on the property. The trailer had been reported stolen in Davidson County on or around August 14, 2023, at the business of Rock Outdoors in Lexington. During their investigation, they were able to identify the owner of the vehicles that had entered the property and taken the trailer as Brian James Moss. Upon arrival at the residence, the deputy observed a new trailer backed up to the garage matching the description given, and one of the vehicles that had been identified in the video surveillance parked beside it.
While speaking with a person who was at the residence and explained that the trailer located in the driveway was believed to be stolen and asked that they step outside while deputies verify the VIN. The subject stated they didn’t know anything about the trailer and that Moss was not currently at the residence but provided contact information for Davidson County Sheriff’s Office to follow up. The VINs were compared and confirmed to be the same trailer. A local towing company responded and transported the trailer to their lot. Davidson County Deputies notified the business that it had been located.
Charges were sought on Moss for Felony Possession of Stolen Goods. The magistrate found probable cause and issued a criminal summons for the charge with a court date of December 4, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
On November 4, 2023, Moss was served the process.
