On November 2, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team located a vehicle traveling on I-85 in Trinity that displayed a stolen license plate. A traffic stop was conducted and during a subsequent search of the vehicle, additional items were located including a catalytic converter, an additional stolen license plate and drug paraphernalia. Detectives discovered during the investigation that one of the license plates that was recovered was previously reported stolen out of Randolph County on October 31, 2023. The driver of the vehicle, Michael Dale Dudley, was arrested. This investigation is ongoing.
Dudley was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for charges of felony possession of a catalytic converter, two counts of misdemeanor possession of stolen goods/property and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. No bond was given due to the Pre-Trial Integrity Act. A first appearance was set for November 3, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
