On September 22, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on Turnpike Rd., Archdale, but the driver failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. The deputy observed multiple traffic violations. The chase continued to the intersection of Meadowbrook Road and Kennedy Road when the driver slowed down and appeared to be turning right before losing control and crashing into a ditch on Kennedy Road across from Meadowbrook Road. The deputy exited his patrol vehicle and approached the scene of the wreck locating the driver of the motorcycle on the ground. The driver initially provided a false name due to having outstanding warrants but was later identified as Frankie Leon Bowman. He was transported to an area hospital for an evaluation.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded for the accident investigation.
Communications advised that the motorcycle had been reported stolen out of Greensboro, NC. The tag displayed on the vehicle did not belong on that vehicle either.
Charges were sought against Bowman and the magistrate found probable cause for felony flee to elude, felony possession of stolen motor vehicle, speeding, failure to maintain lane control, fictitious number plate, three counts stop sign violation, resist/delay/obstruct, identity theft and reckless driving and issued a warrant.
On September 27, 2023, Bowman was located in Orange County. He was arrested and transported to the Orange County Detention Center where he was served the warrant for this incident and an outstanding warrant out of Randolph County issued by NCSHP for misdemeanor fictitious info to officer, misdemeanor resisting public officer, and failure to maintain lane control. The magistrate issued a $50,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for October 2, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
He was also served outstanding orders for arrest of Davidson County for two counts felony possession stolen motor vehicle, two counts felony obtain property by false pretense, felony common law robbery, felony possession of firearm by felon, misdemeanor escape local jail,
felony possession/received stolen property, felony trafficking in methamphetamine, felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver methamphetamine, and misdemeanor possession drug paraphernalia. He was issued a total $274,000 secured bond with a court date set for October 9, 2023, in Davidson County District Court.
