On August 21, 2023, while performing routine patrol in the area of Little Gate Dr., Asheboro, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputy observed a vehicle parked beside the railroad tracks. Upon approach, the deputy located a male subject, identified as Gregory Allen Walker, inside the vehicle and woke him. While the deputy was at his vehicle running the Walker’s information for outstanding processes, Walker began to drive away on a trail into the woods. Due to the conditions of this roadway, the deputy was unable to follow onto the trail with the patrol vehicle and pursued the truck on foot through the trail. He caught up to the vehicle and gave Walker commands to stop the vehicle in which he did so. Walker was ordered out of the vehicle at gunpoint. Additional deputies arrived and assisted with taking custody of him.
During a subsequent search, paraphernalia was located. He was placed under arrest for misdemeanor resisting public officer, misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Walker was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center. Upon arrival, another search was conducted of his person, where methamphetamine was located. The magistrate found probable cause for the initial charges and for felony possession of methamphetamine and felony possession of a controlled substance on a jail premise. Walker was issued a $25,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for August 21, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
