On August 19, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, observed a suspicious vehicle parked in a lot at the corner of Bethel Dr. and Old Thomasville Rd., High Point. During an encounter with the two individuals to see if they were okay, the male stated that they were fine, and that they were just sitting in the parking lot because they didn't have anywhere to go. Randolph Communications advised that the tag was revoked by the State of North Carolina for a lapse in insurance coverage.
Both individuals willingly provided their identification. Upon investigation, Communications advised that the female, Ashley Nicole Thacker, had an outstanding Warrant for Arrest out of Davidson County for felony possession of methamphetamine and she was therefore placed under arrest. While in the patrol vehicle, she began banging her head on the inside of the car and she was kicking the inside. Deputies opened the door and while attempting to get her out of the car to keep her from injuring herself, she attempted to bite, kick and hit the deputies. Once secured, she was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center. Upon arrival, Detention staff assisted in getting Thacker into the facility. She was taken before the magistrate where she was served her outstanding warrant. Additionally, the magistrate found probable cause for misdemeanor assault on government official and misdemeanor resist, delay and obstruct. She was issued a $10,000 total secured bond for these charges as well as a $5,000 for the Davidson County warrant. A first appearance was set for August 21, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
Upon searching the patrol vehicle prior to departure, methamphetamine and paraphernalia were located where she had been seated. The deputy went back before the magistrate who found probable cause for felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and issued a criminal summons and added this to her August 21, 2023, court date.
