On August 18, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Interstate 73/74, Seagrove, in reference to a welfare check for which Billy Glenn Medford Jr., had borrowed a phone to call Randolph County Communications and then became upset with the dispatcher and hung up.
Upon arrival, contact was made with Medford in the parking lot of the southbound rest area. Randolph County EMS responded to evaluate Medford, however, he refused to be transported to the hospital by EMS at that time. The property manager asked that vehicle be towed from the parking lot.
During an inventory of the vehicle prior to towing, marijuana and methamphetamine were located by the deputy. Medford was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He was issued a $20,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for August 21, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
