On August 7, 2023, inmate Mason Bryce Wooten was observed in surveillance footage, striking a sprinkler head in his cell, setting off the system in the assigned cell at the Randolph County Detention Center. Following the investigation, the detention center investigator sought charges
for felony interfere with jail fire system and misdemeanor injury to real property for which the magistrate found probable cause. Wooten was issued a $10,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for August 15, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
