On August 9, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to US Hwy 311 & Old Glenola Rd., Archdale, in reference to a report of a domestic disturbance. The caller reported being held against her will in a vehicle by a male armed with a handgun. The suspect was later identified as Willie Junior Smith. Upon arrival, deputies located the subjects and detained Smith, a convicted felon, for investigation. During a subsequent search, a firearm was located. Smith was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of firearm by felon and issued a $10,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for August 10, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
This investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
