On June 25, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on US HWY 311 & Hog Slide Rd., Sophia. While the driver was attempting to locate the registration, the deputy observed the grip of a handgun in the rear passenger area floor. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, marijuana, cocaine and the firearm were located. Kennedy, also a convicted felon with an active 50-B, was then placed under arrest. Kennedy was transported to Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of cocaine, felony possession of firearm by felon, felony purchase/possess firearm violation of domestic protection order, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He was held on no bond due to the charges being domestic in nature. A first appearance was set for June 26, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
