On January 22, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 3000 block of NC Hwy 22 N., Franklinville, regarding an armed person threatening and assaulting a victim. While enroute, a deputy observed a male walking away from the address matching the description of the armed suspect given by the caller. Deputies exited their patrol vehicle and attempted to approach the male subject. The male subject disregarded commands and instead ran in the woods behind the residence. Deputies pursued the suspect and quickly detained him. He was identified as Hunter Lee Goforth.
During a search for the firearm, a K9 discovered that it had been discarded in the woods.
Goforth was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony First Degree Burglary, felony robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony possession of stolen goods/property, misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun, and misdemeanor resisting a public officer. He was given a no-bond. A first appearance was set for January 23, 2026, in Randolph County District Court.
