On January 4, 2025, while the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was conducting a traffic stop on I-73 N near Spero Rd., Asheboro, a vehicle passed so close by causing the deputy to compress against his patrol car. Another deputy then left the stop and conducted a traffic stop on the offender vehicle for failing to move over. The driver, later identified as Angelo Miguel-Reyes was observed throwing an item out of the passenger window upon stopping. Additional units responded to assist. The vehicle had a revoked license plate due to no insurance and his driver's license was suspended.
Once the driver was secured, the item thrown from the vehicle was located and identified as methamphetamine.
Miguel-Reyes was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for the charges unlawfully passing an emergency service vehicle (move over law), misdemeanor revoked registration plate, misdemeanor driving while license revoked, and felony possession of methamphetamine. He was also served with an outstanding order for arrest for failure to appear. He was given a $6,000 total secured bond and a first appearance was set for January 5, 2026, in Randolph County District Court.
