On September 2, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a victim who had discovered that the seller lacked legal authority to sell the purchased property.
Following an investigation, charges were sought against Emily Victoria Knowlton and Nathan Thomas Key for felony obtain property by false pretense, and the magistrate found probable cause to issue the warrants.
On November 13, 2025, Knowlton was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where she was served her warrant. She was issued a written promise to appear on December 1, 2025, in Randolph County District Court
On November 14, 2025, Key was located, arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate issued a written promise to appear on November 24, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
