On August 1, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Bent Ridge Road, Seagrove, in reference to a report of an armed individual. Upon arrival, subjects present reported that a male, later identified as Travious Dewan Steele, pulled into the driveway and fired rounds into the air with a handgun before leaving the scene. Steele had been previously trespassed from the premises.
Additionally, Makayla Elmeta Jones, who had also previously been trespassed from the same location, was present and was placed under arrest. She was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for misdemeanor first-degree trespassing -enter/remain and misdemeanor resisting a public officer. She was issued a $1,500 secured bond. A first appearance was set for August 4, 2025, in Randolph County District Court. Jones was also served with an outstanding Criminal Summons for misdemeanor simple assault and misdemeanor communicating threats.
Subsequently, the magistrate also found probable cause for a Warrant for Arrest on Travious Dewan Steele for misdemeanor first-degree trespassing - enter/remain and misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
On August 3, 2025, deputies responded to the same address on Bent Ridge Road, Seagrove, regarding a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, the homeowner stated that Steele had pulled into the driveway in a vehicle and fired rounds from a handgun toward the residence. During an inspection for damage, bullet holes were found on the exterior of the home, and damage was also observed inside, with a projectile found on the floor. Crime Scene Investigations Detectives responded to collect evidence.
Additional deputies responded, located Steele, and placed him under arrest without incident. Following the investigation, he was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for five counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony discharge of a firearm into an occupied property, misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun, misdemeanor injury to real property, and misdemeanor first-degree trespass - enter/remain. He was held without bond pending his first appearance, scheduled for August 4, 2025, in Randolph County District Court. Additionally, he was served with his outstanding warrant from the August 1st incident and received a $5,000 secured bond. Other agencies' outstanding warrants were served, and he was issued a $16,500 total secured bond for those.
