On July 5, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of NC Hwy 134 and Burney Road, Asheboro, in reference to two individuals unconscious in a vehicle. Upon arrival, the subjects were ordered out of the vehicle, and emergency personnel conducted an evaluation. Following the evaluation, Nancy Lynn Shankel was arrested on two outstanding orders for arrest out of Randolph County for failure to appear. During the search to arrest, an illegal substance and paraphernalia were located.
She was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where she was served her outstanding orders. She was issued a $6,000 secured bond. The magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. No bond was set for these charges due to her being out on pre-trial release. A first appearance is scheduled for July 7, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
