On July 3, 2025, while patrolling the Seagrove area, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with no visible registration plate traveling on NC 705. The driver did not stop, sped up, and a chase ensued. Approaching NC-1340, heavy fog reduced visibility, causing the deputy to lose sight of the motorcycle, and the pursuit ended. A search continued to ensure the motorcyclist had not crashed or to determine the motorcycle’s direction of travel. Additional deputies responded to assist with the search. They located tire tracks from a motorcycle off into the grass and continuing on Dan Road. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrived to the area to help with the search. Deputies located the motorcycle at a residence on Dan Rd. During the investigation, the driver was identified as Corey Duke Allen King, but he was not found at the residence.
Charges were sought against King for felony flee to elude, resisting a public officer, reckless driving to endanger, speeding, failure to maintain lane control, driving while license revoked, unlawful passing, failure to register a motor vehicle, and inspection violation. The magistrate found probable cause for the charges, issued a warrant for arrest, and an affidavit for seizure of the motorcycle. While waiting to speak with the magistrate, other deputies reported finding King. He was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where he was served the warrant. The magistrate issued a $15,000 secured bond. A court date was scheduled for July 14, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
