On April 24, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a larceny that occurred between January 7th and 10th, 2022, at US Hwy 311 Sophia Flea Market when an unknown suspect stole several knives from the victim, who had a display booth set up inside the flea market. Upon returning to his booth the following weekend, he observed several knives missing from one of his display cases. He spoke with the owner of the flea market, who advised there were several contractors and other employees doing work inside while the business was closed.
On April 23, 2022, the victim was walking around the flea market looking to see what other people were selling, when he approached an outdoor booth and located one of the custom knives. The vendor advised he had purchased the knife from a pawn shop on an unknown date. The victim went to the pawn shop and was able to locate one more of the missing knives. High Point Police was able to have the pawn shop put a hold on the knife while the victim made a report with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office in order for the knife to be recovered.
Upon investigation and collection of evidence by the Randolph County Criminal Investigations Division, a warrant was sought on May 6, 2022, for Jerry Wayne Grice for felony obtain property by false pretense, misdemeanor larceny and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods/property. The magistrate found probable cause and issued the warrants.
On May 23, 2022, Grice was located and arrested in Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction. He was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was issued a $2,500 secured bond and a first appearance was set for May 24, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
