On January 28, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on Shannon Dr., Trinity. When the vehicle came to a stop, the passenger immediately fled on foot.
Upon approach, the female driver, later identified as Miranda Leann Bailey, complied with commands, was removed from the vehicle, and detained during the investigation. She was issued a citation for driving while license revoked and no liability insurance. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, paraphernalia and an illegal substance were located.
By this time, there were multiple other units in the area attempting to locate the male subject who fled.
The male subject was apprehended and initially gave false identification. He was ultimately identified as Brent Cordarius Coggins who had pending warrants. Archdale Police Department responded with a K9, which located items, including a handgun, that Coggins had discarded when he fled. Coggins is a convicted felon.
Randolph County EMS responded to transport Coggins to an area hospital after he reported to have swallowed an illegal substance.
Bailey was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She received a $1,000 secured bond a first appearance was set for January 31, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
Charges were sought against Coggins for felony possession of a firearm by a felon and three counts of misdemeanor resisting a public officer. Probable cause was found and the warrants were issued.
On January 29, 2025, Coggins was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where he was served the warrant. He was issued a $25,000 secured bond and a court date was set for February 21, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
He was also served his outstanding order for arrest out of Davidson County for felony possession of heroin and felony probation violation. He was issued a $40,000 secured bond and scheduled to appear in Davidson County Superior Court on February 24, 2025.
