On December 31, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to NC Hwy 49 S., Asheboro, in reference to a suspicious vehicle that had been there for over an hour. Upon arrival, the caller reported that the vehicle had just left heading south. Deputies patrolled the area and located the vehicle on NC Hwy 49 at a gas station. Upon investigation, the driver was identified as Jacquil Shameek Miller, who did not have a valid driver’s license. Communications advised that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Richland County, South Carolina and that Miller had an outstanding Order for Arrest out of Forsyth County for a failure to appear on an Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. He was placed under arrest.
During the conversation, the deputy observed a young child being held by the passenger and that there was not a child restraint system in the vehicle.
The vehicle was seized and the passengers obtained a ride to their destination. Miller was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle and failure to have the child properly secured. He was issued a $5,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for January 3, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
He was also served his outstanding order for arrest and was issued a $1,500 secured bond.
