On December 6, 2024, the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) sought charges against Dalton Ray Hamlett for felony intimidation of a witness. Detectives from the Criminal Apprehension Team responded to Clyde King Rd. in Seagrove, where they successfully apprehended him. He was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate issued a No Bond. Hamlet is scheduled to appear in Superior Court on Monday, December 9, 2024.

On July 9, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Marshall Lane in Asheboro, in reference to a reported breaking and entering in progress. Upon arrival, the victim was observed running toward the deputy. Randolph County EMS responded to evaluate the victim’s injuries, due to an assault that had occurred. A witness advised the deputy that the suspect, identified as Dalton Ray Hamlett, had headed back toward the dwelling upon law enforcement's arrival. Deputies cleared the residence and did not locate the suspect. After clearing the dwelling, deputies assisted K-9 "Frank" with a track to search for Hamlett. A short time later, K-9 Frank located Hamlett hiding under a pile of brush in a wooded area. Hamlett was taken into custody and the victim’s phone was located in his possession.
During the investigation, deputies located and collected evidence of the breaking and entering and were able to gather more information about the assault that had occurred following the breaking and entering by Hamlett. The victim reportedly had fled out the back door in an attempt to make it to a neighbor’s house for assistance, but Hamlett gave chase and began assaulting the victim.
While Hamlett was in custody, he was transported by Randolph County EMS to Randolph Health for medical evaluation due to being stung by hornets while in the pile of brush in which he was hiding.
Charges were sought pertaining to this incident and the magistrate found probable cause to issue charges of Felony First Degree Burglary, Felony Breaking and Entering Terrorize or Injure, Felony Common Law Robbery, Felony Assault by Strangulation, Misdemeanor Larceny, Misdemeanor Possession of Stolen Goods, Misdemeanor Assault on A Female, Misdemeanor Interfere Emergency Communication and Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property. Upon his release from Randolph Health, he was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where he was served the warrant and given no bond. A first appearance for July 11, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
