On September 22, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Old Cox Rd., Asheboro, in reference to a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, the deputy located a vehicle with the hood up and both the driver and passenger doors open. Upon approach of the vehicle, two males, later identified as Nicholas Wayne Craven and Jonathan Edward Beane, were walking out from behind the house, through the weeds. When the males saw the deputy, Craven sat some items down and proceeded to the vehicle. During the investigation, it was determined that it was copper pipe and other items that Craven had sat in the weeds. Both subjects were detained. Upon further investigation, a trail could be seen in the weeds leading to the crawlspace where it was confirmed that the copper pipe had been cut and removed. Property owners were notified and they responded.
Craven and Beane were arrested and transported to Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony break and enter, felony larceny after break or enter, misdemeanor second-degree trespass, and misdemeanor injury to property to obtain nonferrous metal. Craven received no bond and Beane received a $5,000 secure bond. A first appearance was set for September 23, 2024, in Randolph County District Court
