On May 19, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to County Line Rd. in reference to a burglary. While enroute to the location, Thomasville Police Department advised that they were close by and would also be enroute to the location. When they arrived on scene, they observed the door to the garage was open and screens on the north side windows of the home were cut. They cleared the residence and did not locate anyone inside. When they exited they observed a male subject, matching the description given from Ring camera footage, walking west on Kingston Rd. and detained him. He was identified as Michael Keith Abernathy.
Deputies arrived and continued the investigation. The victim explained the cameras alerted to the male subject being at the residence. Upon their arrival and entry into the home, it was obvious that drawers had been rummaged through and a suitcase removed from a closet was sitting in the middle of a bedroom. They exited immediately in case someone was still present and called 911.
Following the investigation, deputies arrested Abernathy and transported him to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony breaking and entering and felony possession of burglary tools. He was issued a $15,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for May 20, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
